Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 04/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 72,375 people in April 2024, which represents an increase of 2.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and stands at 3,588,890 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in 35 counties, among which El Solsonès stands out, increasing by 10.9% (it is affected by the new county division), L'Alt Empordà (2.9%) and El Gironès (2.8 %). At the other extreme, La Segarra and Osona (affected by the new county division) recorded decreases (−4.9% and −1.8%, respectively), followed by L'Alta Ribagorça, La Conca de Barberà and Aran.

In relation to March, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 12,985 people (0.4%). The number of contributors increased in 28 counties, remained stable in 2 and decreased in 12 counties and Aran. The highest increases are those of La Ribera d'Ebre (3.4%) and La Selva (1.7%), while the main decreases are those of Aran (−19.3%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (−10.7%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole, the number of women affiliated with Social Security increased by 38,300 and that of men by 34,075, which represents year-over-year increases of 2.3% and 1.8%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago, except for the 30 to 44-year-old group, which decreased by 0.6% in Catalonia as a whole. Contributors aged 55 and over are the ones that increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (4.9%), followed by those under 30 (4.0%).

Contributors of foreign nationality increased in Catalonia as a whole by 7.0% compared to the same month of the previous year, and they did so in 38 counties and Aran. Contributors of Spanish nationality increased by 1.1% in Catalonia as a whole and decreased in 8 counties and Aran.

Affiliations in the services sector increased by 2.3% year-over-year, the largest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory, except in 4 counties and Aran. In the industry, affiliations increased by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole, and they also did so in 32 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 1.0%, and it grew in 19 counties and Aran. Agriculture also increased its affiliations, by 1.0%.

By type of working day, 19.3% of employee affiliations in April were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.3%, more than double that of men (12.4%).

With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 11.1%, 1.2 percentage points less than a year before. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is La Ribera d'Ebre (16.6%), and those with the lowest levels are El Baix Empordà (8.0%) and L'Alt Empordà (8.5%).
