The Statistics on handicaps and disabilities 1999, present results for Catalonia of an exploitation of the Survey on disabilities, impairments and state of health conducted by the INE.
The Survey on disabilities, impairments and state of health seeks to estimate the number of people resident in family homes suffering from a disability and to find out who these people are, identify the impairments causing the disabilities.
The Statistics on handicaps and disabilities 1999 were conducted on people residing in family homes in Catalonia and the objective is to detect the people in surveyed households suffering from some disability in accordance with the International classification of impairments, disabilities and handicaps (ICIDH).
This publication collects information on the basic characteristics of disabled people (age, sex, level of completed studies, size of household and size of municipality of residence) and disabled people in dependent situations that have difficulty performing basic everyday activities. These statistics also provide information on the economic activity of the disabled person and their need to receive social and sanitary services and aid. Finally, information is given on the level of severity of the disabilities suffered by people and the main characteristics of their impairments.
