Input-Output Framework for Catalonia

This section includes information from the different input-output projects that have been carried out in Catalonia. The latest of these projects corresponds to an update of the 2016 Input-Output Framework (MIOC 2016).

The input-output framework is a system of macroeconomic information that allows us to know more about an economy. The European System of Accounts 2010 (ESA 2010) is the accounting framework of reference for drawing up input-output analyses, with the goal of creating a systematic, detailed description of the whole of the economy, its components and its relationship to other economies. The ESA 2010 directives guarantee methodological homogeneity and improve the comparability of economic data at the international level.

The input-output framework, using the supply and use tables, and the symmetric table, offers a detailed description of the production process (cost structure, income generated and employment) and the flow of goods and services (production, intermediate consumption, final consumption, investment, exports, imports, etc.). The congruence of this framework is guaranteed by two accounting identities: total income generated in each branch of activity is equal to its gross value added and, with regards to each product, the supply is equal to demand.

The 2016 Input-Output Framework for Catalonia (MIOC 2016) is the fifth edition of these statistics carried out in Catalonia; previous editions were the 2001 Input-Output Tables (TIOC 2001) and the 2005 Input-Output Tables (TIOC 2005) the 2011 Input-Output Framework for Catalonia (MIOC 2011) and the 2014 Input-Output Framework for Catalonia (MIOC 2014).
