PORTS

These statistics have a specific section with all the information available: Statistics on Maritime Traffic in Ports (PORTS).

Methodological note

Freight traffic in ports includes the tons of goods loaded, unloaded and transported in the same. Freight includes liquid bulk (oil products, natural gas and other liquids), solid bulk (cement, coal, cereals, minerals, etc.) and goods in general, which are goods packaged as countable loading units (bottled liquids, packaged cement, etc.).

Liquid bulk is understood to mean goods loaded onto or unloaded from merchant vessels, produced for any kind of shipping (exterior or cabotage), depending on whether the transported goods require special handling for these liquid products. Of the transport of liquid products, the most important is oil products.

Solid bulk is understood to mean goods loaded onto or unloaded from merchant vessels, produced for any kind of shipping (exterior or cabotage), depending on whether the transported goods are in the inherent form of solid products, regardless of whether the handling of the same requires special installations or not. These include products such as iron, coals, cereals, cements, etc.

General goods are understood to mean goods loaded onto or unloaded from merchant vessels, produced for any kind of shipping (exterior or cabotage), depending on whether the transported goods are packaged or contained, unlike liquid or solid bulk. These mainly include goods in freight containers or others in any kind of packaging or container.

Freight containers are understood to mean goods loaded onto or unloaded from merchant vessels, produced for any kind of shipping (exterior or cabotage), depending on whether the transported goods are in containers measuring 20 or more feet.

The data for Catalonia refers to the ports of Barcelona and Tarragona.

The data are provisional.
