Methodological note

Life expectancy at age 60 is interpreted as the mean number of years a generation of people aged 60 can expect to live if the mortality by age conditions for a specific year or period do not vary for the rest of their life. This is a synthetic indicator that includes in one single figure the mortality experience of the whole of the population for all ages.

The data for the year 2012 and beyond are taken from the life tables calculated by the Department of Health. The data for previous years are taken from the life tables drawn up by Idescat, which are calculated upon the basis of the five-year averages in which the table's reference year corresponds to the middle year of the period.
