Industrial price index (IPRI). December 2016 and 2016 provisional data


The Industrial Products Price Index (which does not include energy) increased by 0.9% –on a year-over-year basis– in Catalonia in December 2016. For large industrial sectors, increased the price of intermediate goods (1.5%) and the price of consumer goods (1.0%); while the price of equipment goods decreased (−0,3%). On the other hand, by industrial divisions, the most significant increases in prices were registred in metallurgy; manufacture of basic iron, steel and ferroalloy products (17.6%) and in printing and reproduction of recorded media (4.6%); while the most notable decreases were in the field of other manufacturing industries (−2.3%) and in the industries of paper products (&minus1.3%). During the same period the industrial price index grew 1.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, as a result of the rose of energy price (4.5%).

In 2016, Industrial Products Price Index (which does not include energy), in annual average terms, decreased by 0.6% with respect to the previous year, according to provisional data. For large industrial sectors, showed decreases the prices of intermediate goods (−1.8%); while increased the prices of equipment and consumer goods (both a 0.2%). The Industrial Price Index, in annual average terms, decreased by 3.6% compared to the previous year due to the fall of energy price (−13.9%).

The Industrial Price Index is a short-term indicator that measures the monthly evolution in the prices of products manufactured by industry during their first phase of commercialisation. Based on data from INE, Idescat makes a tabulation by major industrial sectors.
