02.01.2017

The number of overnight stays spent at campsites in Catalonia increased by 4.0% in the fourth quarter of 2016 on the year–over–year data, according to the provisional data from the Campsite Occupancy Survey. As to the origins of such tourism, domestic campers rose by 4,2%: the tourism from Catalonia increased by 2.7% and the tourism from the rest of the country by 24.4%. Foreign tourism, on the other hand, rose by 3.7%. What is more, the year-over-year figures for the number of travellers registering at campsites rose by 13.2%.

The Campsite Occupancy Survey is one of the main sources of statistics for gauging tourist activity, both from the point of view of supply and demand. Carried out each month by INE and, in Catalonia, it provides quarterly information on travellers, overnight stays and the occupancy rate in campsites. Idescat analyses these variables on the basis of the travellers' places of origin, establishment categories and tourism brands.
