Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector. 2015

The turnover generated by wholesale trade companies in Catalonia stood at 131,628 million euros in 2015, which represents a 3.4% increase with respect to the previous year, according to the Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector. Foreign sales increased 8.1% with respect to 2014, representing 33.5% of turnover in the industry.

The Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector (called the Industrial Companies Survey prior to the reference year 2014), is the main statistical source for the industrial sectors. The fundamental purpose is to study the structural characteristics of industrial companies (number of establishments and employees, production, sales, intermediate consumption, investment, etc.) and estimate the main macromagnitudes, with a large sectoral disaggregation.

The main source of information is the Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector, which is annual sample survey carried out by the INE in conjunction with Idescat in Catalonia (in accordance with the joint agreement signed by the two institutions). Idescat makes a detailed treatment for Catalonia.

Starting in the reference year 2015, a project to integrate the structural business surveys for the industrial, trade and service sectors was carried out, which brought about the following changes:

  • practically identical questionnaires in the three sectors
  • more efficient sample designs, to reduce the burden on the respondents and make better use of administrative records
  • new name for the former operations (Annual Trade Survey, Annual Services Survey and Indus-trial Companies Survey), which became the Structural Business Statistics in the Trade Sector, the Service Sector and the Industrial Sector.
