The Industrial Products Price Index (which does not include energy) increased by 1.6% on a year-over-year basis in Catalonia in December 2017. By large industrial sectors, the prices increased for all goods: intermediate goods (2.7%), equipment goods (1,1%) and consumer goods (0.8%). On the other hand, by industrial divisions, the most significant increases in prices were registred in metallurgy; manufacture of basic iron, steel and ferroalloy products (8.9%), manufacture of beverages (3.6%) and chemical industries (3.4%); while the most notable decreases were in the field of printing and reproduction of recorded media (−1.1%), in the manufacture of other transport equipment and in the other manufacturing industries (both −0.4%). During the same period the industrial price index fell 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In 2017, Industrial Products Price Index (which does not include energy), in annual average terms, increased 2.0% in relation to the previous year, according to provisional data. By large industrial sectors, all showed increases: the prices of intermediate goods (3.1%), the prices of consumer goods (1.7%) and the prices of equipment goods (0.6%). The Industrial Price Index, in annual average terms, increased by 4.3% compared to the previous year as a result of the increase in energy prices (13.1%).
The Industrial Price Index is a short-term indicator that measures the monthly evolution in the prices of products manufactured by industry during their first phase of commercialisation. Based on data from INE, Idescat makes a tabulation by major industrial sectors.
