The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 1.4% year-over-year for the month of February 2018, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourist overnight stays decreased by 4.2%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 9.8% and travellers from the rest of the State increased by 1.5%. Foreign tourism overnight stays remained stable (0.0%).
By main country of origin, tourists from France and United Kingdom presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (229,5 and 159,8 thousand, respectively).
By tourism brands, Barcelona and Costa Barcelona were the locations that totalled the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (1.371.0 and 351.4 thousand, respectively).
On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments increased by 0.4% year-over-year with an decrease in domestic (−0.9%) and an increase in foreign tourism (1.3%).

The Hotel Occupancy Survey is one of the main sources of statistics for gauging tourist activity. Carried out each month by INE, it provides information on travellers, overnight stays and the occupancy rate in hotel establishments. Idescat analyses these variables according to the provenance of the travellers by place of origin and by destination zones and by category of the establishment.
