The Turnover Index for the service sector (IASSVN) (base 2015=100) increased by a year-over-year 8.0% in Catalonia in January 2018. By activity sectors, trade grew by 6.9% and other services (this is to say, all except for trade) by 10.2%. Within these other services, all sectors increased. The highest increases were registered by administrative activities and auxiliary services (19.1%), professional, scientific and technical activities (10.3%) and information and communications (9.7%).
The activity indicators in the services sector measure the short-term evolution in the activities of companies operating in the Retail, Transport and storage, Hostelry, Information and communication, Professional, scientific and technical activities, Administrative activities and auxiliary services.
Based on the data from the INE's activity index in the services sector (IASS), monthly Idescat draws up a short-term indicators that includes the general index of turnover (IASSVN) broken down into six sectors.
With the publication of the data for January 2018 based on 2015, Idescat complies with Council Regulation (EC) 1165/98 on short-term statistics, which establishes a change of basis every five years. The implementation of this new basis improves the representativeness of the indicator and updates the weighting structure and the sample of informant units. The linked sets of the indexes based on 2015 have been published since January 2005.
