Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q4 2018 and 2018. Provisional data

Catalonia exported industrial products valued at 17,078.5 million euros during the fourth quarter of 2018, a figure which represents a 1.1% year-over-year fall. However, we should highlight the increase in sales of high-level technology (9.3%), followed by those of products with a low technology level (3.4%), while sales of medium-high-level and medium-low-level products fell (−4.0% and −7.1%, respectively).

In addition, the value of imports totalled 20,519.4 million euros during the fourth quarter, a 6.8% increase on a year-over-year basis. All the technological levels increased their sales abroad: products with a medium-high level by 7.9%, those with a high level by 7.5% and those with a medium-low level by 7.3%, while those with a low level also increased, but with less intensity (3.9%).

In 2018, Catalonia exported industrial products valued at 67,839.5 million euros, a figure which represents an increase of 0.6% with respect to the previous year. By technological levels, exports of high-level technological products (1.2%) and those with a medium-high level (2.3%) increased. In contrast, exports of medium-low technology level products decreased (−4.2% and −0.1%, respectively).

With regard to imports, Catalonia imported industrial products valued at 80,755.3 million euros in 2018, a figure which represents an increase of 6.6% with respect to the previous year. Purchases abroad increased at all the technological levels, headed by medium-low-level products (10.7%) and followed by high-level and medium-high-level products (8.2% in both cases).
