Annual economic accounts in Catalonia. 2018

The gross domestic product of Catalonia reached 242,313 million euros in 2018, a figure that represents an annual growth rate of 2.6%, according to the Annual Economic Accounts for Catalonia.

From a demand perspective, domestic demand grew by 2.5%. The most outstanding component was the evolution of gross capital formation, which increased by 4.6%, while household consumer expenditure saw an upturn of 2.0% and consumption by public administrations increased by 1.9%. In relation to the foreign sector, the downturn in total exports stands out, dropping from 5.1% in 2017 to 2.0% in 2018. Furthermore, foreign imports grew by 3.6%.

From a supply perspective, the construction industry led the economic growth with 4.7%, industrial branches slowed down (from a rate of 4.8% in 2017 to 1.1% in 2018) and service sector activities increased by 2.9%. Finally, the agrarian branches recorded a negative variation of 0.4%.
