Statistics on Hotel Activity. 03/2019

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 2.4% year–over–year for the month of March 2019, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourist overnight stays decreased by 9.4%: of these, travellers from the rest of the State increased by 1.0% and Catalan travellers decreased by 19.0%. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 1.7% year-over-year. Note that in 2019 Easter was celebrated in April, while in 2018 it took place between March and April.

By country of origin, tourists from France, United States and Italy presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (285.8, 207.5 and 204.5 thousand, respectively), all with positive year-on-year variations (0.4%, 18.3% and 25.2%).

By tourism brands, Barcelona and Costa Barcelona were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (1,803.2, and 506.8 thousand, respectively) and show year–over–year variations of 8.0% and 5.8%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments decreased by 1.6% year-over-year: domestic turism decreased by 8.1% and foreign tourism increased by 3.1%.
