Methodological note

Methodological aspects

The basic information on population by marital status is obtained from the Population and Housing Census.

The Population and Housing Census is a statistical operation produced decennially that provides a headcount of the resident population within the territory of a country and its geographical distribution. It also provides information on the main demographic and social characteristics of the population, households and families, and the population residing in group establishments.

The last Census was in 2011, and the reference date is November 1, 2011. The Population and Housing Censuses 2011 are a state-wide statistical operation conducted by the INE and that is being undertaken for the first time by European mandate. The reference date is November 1, 2011. The census model observed by the INE in producing that census consists of an operation that combines exploitation of the administrative records with a sample-based survey and a count of buildings. The availability of the Municipal population register as a consolidated population register made it possible to complete a census of such a nature.

Unavailable information is represented using the symbol ":". When the value is lower than that of the minimum unit to be able to estimate the statistical operation or if it effects statistical confidentiality, the symbol used is "..".
