Definition of concepts

Dock
A group of land and water-accessible surfaces within a port service area intended specifically for merchant, fishing or recreational vessels and their complementary activities.

A group of permanent or temporary buildings and facilities which, without having to comply with the requisites of a seaport, occupy publicly-held areas that are not part of a port service area and is exclusively or principally intended for providing moorage to small-length craft, handling goods, passengers or fish, and harbouring and anchoring vessels and other nautical equipment. Moorings, seasonal platforms, dry docks, fixed or floating walkways and anchorages are considered to be maritime facilities, as well as wharfs ocated along the Catalan coast.
Nautical facility
Marine construction that enables sport and leisure vessels to load and unload. Includes marinas and other facilities such as wharfs, quays and docks.
Inland Marina
A set of areas consisting of the buildings and facilities necessary to permanently connect a territory's coastal waters with privately- or publicly-held inland plots, either already developed or available for development, via a network of canals whose purpose is to allow recreational vessels to navigate to the parcels within maritime-terrestrial development guidelines.
Seaport
A set of areas consisting of coastal waters, land-based areas and access points, and facilities having the natural or artificial physical conditions and organisation necessary to carry out its own port operations, in accordance with the use for which the port facilities and its service areas are intended. The adjacent waters needed to guarantee a safe approach to the port and anchorage for merchant, fishing or recreational vessels also form part of the seaport and its service area.
