Statistics EIIMethodological note
The Survey of industrial investment in Cataloniais a bi-annual statistical operation that follows the common method used in such surveys by the different countries of the European Union and basically aims to provide information on the most recent evolution of industrial investment in Catalonia and to anticipate the investment behaviour of the industry and its sectors.
An investment is considered as being the value of net acquisitions of tangibleand intangible fixed assets (purchases less sales), and work performed by companiesfor their fixed assets. However, neither deferred charges nor financial investmentsare considered investments.
The questionnaires are sent twice a year (spring and autumn) to the 2,000industrial companies that comprise the sample. They are asked to provide dataon investments made and planned, as well as qualitative information regardingtheir purpose and factors that limit or stimulate them.
The data are obtained as follows:
Spring survey:
- Quantitative data: Provisional current year and the definitive previous year
- Qualitative data: Provisional current year
Autumn survey:
- Quantitative data: Provisional current year and the forecasts for the next year
- Qualitative data: Definitive current year and the forecasts for the next year
The industrial activities follow sections C, D and E of the Catalan Classification of Economic Activities (NACE Rev.2) with the following disaggregation:
- Energy and water industry (CCAE: 10; 11; 12; 23; 40; 41)
- Intermediate goods industries (CCAE: 13; 14; 15.6–7; 17.1–3; 20; 21; 24.1–3,6–7; 25; 26; 27; 28.4–7; 31.2–6; 32.1; 37)
- Automobile industry (CCAE: 34)
- Equipment goods industries (CCAE: 28.1–3; 29.1–6; 30; 31.1; 32.2; 33.1–3; 35.1–3)
- Durable consumer goods industries (CCAE: 29.7; 32.3; 33.4–5; 35.4–5; 36.1–3)
