Methodological note

The information on the incidence of Covid–19 in Catalonia comes from the data published by the Government of Catalonia's Ministry of Health (dadescovid.cat).

With regard to cases of infection by the coronavirus, they include PCR–confirmed cases, PCR, antigen tests (ATs) serological tests, ELISA tests and the epidemiological and probable cases. The imputed date is the start of the case, which is the earliest date between the date on which a health issue is diagnosed with Covid–19 symptoms in Primary Healthcare (provided the diagnosis is 14 days before the PCR/AT) and the date on which the positive PCR/AT result arrives. If a person has more than one Covid–19 diagnosis, the first one in the last 14 days is the one taken. If a person has undergone more than one PCR/AT, the first one is taken, which is the test that confirms the case.

Data on deaths include all those that specify in the death certificate that the person died due to Covid–19, whether or not they have a positive PCR. Since 15 April, the Catalan Ministry of Health has offered the total number of deaths in hospitals, retirement homes, social health centres and at home throughout Catalonia, based on the information provided by funeral homes.

Notes about data

- Deaths in care homes are counted together with those occurring in hospitals and clinics.

- The number of deaths in hospitals and clinics decreased on 24 May due to a data review by the Ministry of Health, Generalitat de Catalunya.

- The 2020 data was revised in February 2021.

- From July 2022, only the "Weekly incidence of Covid-19" table will be updated, as the monitoring of Covid-19 will be integrated into the epidemiological surveillance of acute respiratory infections (ARI) through the monitoring of key indicators in SIVIC (the Information System for the Surveillance of Infections in Catalonia).
