# Idescat — Statistical Institute of Catalonia

> Idescat (Statistical Institute of Catalonia) is the official statistics body of the Government of Catalonia. It produces, integrates and disseminates the official statistics of Catalonia. Its website (www.idescat.cat) offers open access to hundreds of statistics on population, economy, society and territory of Catalonia, organized by topic and available at different geographical levels (Catalonia, provinces, counties, municipalities, etc.). The website is available in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Important notes:

- Statistics are organized into 25 topics and are accessible at various geographical levels: Catalonia, provinces, territorial plan areas, counties and Aran, municipalities, districts and census sections.
- Idescat offers a collection of REST APIs to access data programmatically in JSON and XML formats. Use of the APIs is free but requires acceptance of the terms of use.
- Data can also be downloaded in CSV and JSON format from the open data section.
- The website search engine allows searching by keyword, by territory (municipality, county, etc.) and by first and last names.
- Idescat also exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at [https://api.idescat.cat/mcp](https://api.idescat.cat/mcp), described by an MCP Server Card at [https://api.idescat.cat/mcp/server-card](https://api.idescat.cat/mcp/server-card), and an ARD (Agentic Resource Discovery) manifest at [https://www.idescat.cat/.well-known/ard.json](https://www.idescat.cat/.well-known/ard.json), enabling AI agents to discover and query its statistics programmatically.
