The Industrial Production Index (IPI) adjusted by working days (Base 2010=100) grew by 12.5% for the year-over-year variation in Catalonia in December 2017. As far as large industrial sectors were concerned, all sectors registered increases: equipment goods rose by 20.7%, intermediate goods by 9.7%, consumer goods by 6.5% and energy by 16.5%.
In 2017, the annual average of the Industrial Production Index (Base 2010=100) rose by 3.9%, according to provisional data. In large industrial sectors, there was an increase across the board: intermediate goods rose by 5.6%, equipment goods by 4.5% and consumer goods by 2.1%. The sections of the CCAE-09 showing the highest increases were mining industries (18.2%) and manufacturing industries (4.0%).
The Industrial Production Index is a short-term indicator that measures the monthly evolution in the volume of gross added value generated by industrial branches and by industry as a whole. It therefore measures the changes in industrial production without the price effect. Based on data from INE, Idescat makes a tabulation by major industrial sectors as well as by sections and divisions in the CCAE-2009. It also calculates the IPI corrected for calendar effects.
