The number of overnight stays in campsites grew 7.1% in Catalonia in 2017, according to definitive data from the Campsite Occupancy Survey. Regarding the origin of the travellers, overnight stays of domestic tourists rose by 7.8%: 5.8% those from catalan tourists and 24.0% from the rest of Spain; foreign tourism overnight stays grew a 6.6%. By tourism brands, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada recorded the highest number of overnight stays with yearly increases of 6.9% and 7.0%, respectively. The number of passengers in campsites rose by 8.5% on a yearly basis.
The Campsite Occupancy Survey is one of the main sources of statistics for gauging tourist activity, both from the point of view of supply and demand. Carried out each month by INE and, in Catalonia, it provides quarterly information on travellers, overnight stays and the occupancy rate in campsites. Idescat analyses these variables on the basis of the travellers' places of origin, establishment categories and tourism brands.
From January 2016, on the occasion of the creation of El Moianès county, the municipalities of Castellcir, Castellterçol, Granera and Sant Quirze Safaja (which were part of the Costa Barcelona brand), they become part of Paisatges de Barcelona brand.
