Among boys, the name Marc (719) was once again the most common, although there was a continuation of its downward trend initiated in 2003, when it was chosen for 1,640 newborn children. It was followed by Àlex/Álex (580), Pol (566), Nil (529) and Jan (507). The most common girl’s name was Júlia/Julia (634), which was chosen more often than Martina (601). They were followed by Emma (563), Maria/María (532) and Lucía (531).
Marc was also the most common boy’s name in the Metropolitan Area, El Camp de Tarragona, Les Terres de l’Ebre and Ponent, while it shared top position with Nil in the Central Counties. It was Martí in the Girona Counties, Nil in L’Alt Pirineu i Aran and Hugo and Àlex/Álex in El Penedès. As for girls’ names, Júlia/Julia was the most common in the Metropolitan Area, the Girona Counties, Les Terres de l’Ebre and the Central Counties. Lucía was the most common in El Camp de Tarragona, Carla in Ponent and Arlet in L’Alt Pirineu i Aran. The names Emma and Martina shared top position in El Penedès.
