Statistics on Hotel Activity. 2018. Definitive data

Overnight stays in hotels decreased 0.8% in Catalonia in 2018 according to definitive data from the Hotel Occupancy Survey. By origin of travellers, overnight stays from domestic tourism decreased 5.1%: 2.0% from Catalans and 8.5% from tourists coming from the rest of Spain. In contrast, overnight stays from foreign tourists increased 0.9%. By country of origin, tourists from France and the United Kingdom showed more overnight stays in absolute terms (6,619.4 and 5,986.9 thousand, respectively), but with annual variations with a marked difference: France increased 1.3%, while the United Kingdom decreased 3.5%.

By tourism brands ,Barcelona and the Costa Brava are where the most overnight stays are concentrated (21,141.1 and 11,512.8 thousand, respectively) with positive annual variations from 2.7% and 0.5% respectively. In contrast, overnight stays on the Costa Brava (10,515.5 thousand) decreased 4.8% and on the Costa Daurada (9,886.9 thousand) 4.1%.

On the other hand, the total number of travellers registered in hotels increased 1.4% compared to the previous year, but there was a decrease in domestic tourism (1.7%) and an increase in foreign tourism (3.2%).
