Statistics on Commuting for University Studies. SY 2017/18

In the school year 2017/2018, 73.9% of the 161,810 university students living in Catalonia travelled from their municipalities of residence to one of the 24 municipalities where the university education centres are located.

With respect to the areas of the territorial Plan, there is a significant variation in the percentages of students who studied in the same area of the Territorial Plan as they lived in. Thus, most of the students living in the Metropolitan Area (94.5%) studied in the same area as they lived in. The students living in El Camp de Tarragona (63.5%), Ponent (60.0%) and Girona Counties (56.0%) were in an intermediate situation. Finally, the percentages of students who studied in the same area as they lived in were lower among the students living in the Central Counties (28.6%), El Penedès (6.0%) and Les Terres de l'Ebre (3.2%). In L'Alt Pirineu i Aran there is no university education centre and the 1,170 university students who lived there had to travel outside the area to study.

For a detailed analysis of student mobility in all municipalities of Catalonia, see Extended Intermunicipal and Inter-county results.
