Survey on ICT Equipment and Use in Households. 2019

52% of the population aged between 16 and 74 years in Catalonia have bought something via the Internet in the last 3 months in 2019, a figure that constitutes an increase of 2.7 percentage points compared to last year. In households where there is a child, the percentage of people who have made a purchase via the Internet exceeds the average for Catalonia: 57.9% of households with couples with children and 53% of households with a single parent with children.

As for the use of Internet, 93.7% of people aged between 16 and 74 had used it in the 3 months before the survey was conducted and 91.1% use it habitually at least once a week. These figures show an increase compared to 2018 of 5.7 and 6.0 points, respectively. By age groups, habitual use of Internet among younger people exceeds 97%: 97.1% of people aged 16 to 24; 99% of those aged 25 to 34 and 97.7% of those in the 34-44 age group.

The percentage of children aged 10 to15 that have used the Internet in the last 3 months has increased by 2.6 percentage points, from 92.8% in 2018 to 95.4% this year.

As for equipment in households, 84.9% have some kind of computer and 93.9% have broadband Internet access. 59.8% of homes in Catalonia have a tablet, a figure which constitutes an increase of 3.9 points over the year 2018 (55.9%).
