Longitudinal Statistics on Working Lives. 2018

The number of people in Catalonia who had some sort of administrative relationship with Social Security was 5,363,975 in 2018, whether as contributors, pensioners or residents. Of these, 3,844,225 were registered for paid employment for at least one day, a figure which is 1.7% more than the previous year and 3.9% less than in 2007, the year before the start of the economic crisis. Of these 3,844,225 people, 2,332,425 were registered for paid employment all year, 1.5% more than in 2017 and 5.0% less than in 2007.

The number of people that received an unemployment benefit or subsidy for at least one day was 660,200 in 2018, a figure which represents a decrease of 1.2% compared to 2017 and an increase of 18.2% compared to 2007. Of these people, 48,000 were beneficiaries all year. As for the receipt of contributory pensions, 1,541,075 people were beneficiaries at some point during the year and, of these, 1,317,750 were beneficiaries all year.
