Economically Active Population Survey. 2019

The employed persons in Catalonia rose by 2.3% in 2019 and reached a mean value of 3,440,700 people, 575,700 of which had an employment seniority of less than a year. The employment rate between the ages of 20 and 64 stood at 73.6%, 0.7 more than the previous year.

The unemployment rate in Catalonia stood at a mean of 11.0% in 2019, with a total of 426,400 unemployed, 2.3% less than in 2018, according to the Economically Active Population Survey. The number of households with all their active members unemployed totalled 125,200 (4.1% of all Catalan households) representing a drop of 4.2% compared to the year before.

As for young people under 25, the average annual unemployment rate fell 1.5 points with respect to 2018 and stood at 26.2% of the active population between 16 and 24 of age.

The population aged 20-24 with secondary studies decreased by 1.3 points with respect to the previous year and totalled 73.8%, while the population aged 30-34 with tertiary educational attainment grew 3.3 with respect to 2018 and totalled 50.6% (43.9% in the case of men and 57.1% in the case of women). The school dropout rate rose by 2 points compared to 2018 and affected 19.0% of the population aged between 18 and 24.
