Since 14 March 2020, when the state of alarm was announced, the opening to the public of retail premises and establishments has been suspended, with the exception of food, beverages, essential goods and items, pharmaceuticals, medication, optical and orthopaedic items, hygiene products, printed media and stationery, fuel for automotive vehicles, tobacconists, technological and telecommunications equipment, food for pets and ecommerce conducted by telephone or mail order (Article 10.1 of Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, announcing the state of alarm to manage the healthcare crisis due to COVID-19). This fact has produced an unprecedented situation in the data collection. Despite the closure of these establishments in April and the resulting difficulty in collecting information made in May, in which many establishments remained closed or reopened, the response rate was not significantly affected compared with a normal month, and so it is considered that the estimated data can be published.
