Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 05/2020

The number of Social Security affiliations in Catalonia until 31 May 2020 increased by 0.2% compared to the figure for March, and currently stands at 3,334,625.

By economic sectors in comparison with the month of March, Social Security affiliations increased in agriculture (14.1%, 7,463 affiliations) and in construction (3.6%, 7,035 affiliations), while it decreased in services (−0.2%, 5,922 affiliations) and in industry (−0.5%, 2,405 affiliations).

By economic sector, the largest increases were in agriculture, livestock, hunting and related services (15%, 7,157 affiliations), in employment-related activities (21.9%, 7,149 affiliations) and in building construction (6.1%, 3,941 affiliations). The largest decreases were recorded in education (−2.2%, 3,733 affiliations), in household activities that provide employment to domestic workers (−3.8%, 3,085 affiliations) and in the Public Administration, defence and mandatory Social Security (−1.2%, 2,558 affiliations).

By type of employment relationship, the numbers of Social Security contributors in paid employment increased (0.3%) in comparison with March, while those of the self-employed decreased (−0.3%). In Social Security affiliations of employees, both those on permanent (0.2%) and temporary contracts (1.3%) increased. With regard to the workday, there was a marked increase in permanent discontinuous contracts (11.0%); new Social Security affiliations in full-time employment increased by 0.8% and part-time workers decreased by 1.6%.

The number of contributors to Social Security in Catalonia increased by 0.3% in May 2020 in comparison with March and currently stands at 3,181,520.

By counties, the ones with the largest increases are La Ribera d'Ebre (4.7%) and El Segrià (4.3%). In contrast, L'Alta Ribagorça (−2.6%) and El Pallars Sobirà (−2.3%) are the counties with the largest decreases.

By sex, the number of male contributors increased by 0.8% and female contributors decreased by 0.2%. By nationality, the number of foreign contributors increased (3.0%), while the number of contributors with Spanish citizenship decreased by 0.1%.

As a consequence of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, Idescat publishes the provisional results of Social Security contributors and affiliations based on contributors’ registered place of residence as of the last day of each month. The statistics on Contributors and Affiliations is referenced to the last day of March, June, September and December, but for the duration of this exceptional situation, data will also be published on the last day of each month for which they are available.
