Tourism of Residents in Catalonia. Q1/2020
The number of trips made by Catalans decreased 30.3% year–over–year in the first quarter 2020. People residing in Catalonia made 5.1million trips , involving 17.6 million overnight stays, an average stay of 3.4 nights, and an expenditure of 1,265 million euros.
The expenditure of Catalans on trips in the first quarter came to 247 euros per person, which represents a increase of 9.3% in comparison with the fisrt quarter of 2019, and expenditure of 72 euros per day, with represents a decrease of 1.8%.
The number of day trips made by people residing in Catalonia stood at 8.4 million in the first quarter of 2020, 33.1% less than in the same quarter of the previous year.
The entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, whereby a state of alarm is declared for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, had an effect on the movements of residents by restricting their freedom of circulation. This affected tourist-related movements in the second fortnight of March.
