The number of trips to Catalonia by residents of the rest of Spain decreased 32.9% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2020, which meant a total of 623.9 trips, 2,343.1 thousand overnight stays, an average stay of 3.8 nights and an expenditure of 222 million euros.
The expenditure on trip to Catalonia of residents in the rest of Spain in the first quarter of 2020 was 356 euros per person, a figure that represents an increase of 4.6% above the first quarter of 2019, equivalent to a daily expenditure of 95 euros.
The number of a day trips to Catalonia of residents in the rest of Spain totalled 77.3 thousand in the first quarter of 2020, with an decrease of 42.2% in comparison to the same quarter of the previous year.
The entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, whereby a state of alarm is declared for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, had an effect on the movements of residents by restricting their freedom of circulation. This affected tourist-related movements in the second fortnight of March.
