Labour Cost Statistics. 2019

The total gross labour cost per worker stood at 34,014.61 euros in Catalonia in 2019, a figure that represents an increase of 2.8% compared to 2018 according to the Annual Labour Cost Survey. By sectors, the gross labour cost increased by 3.4% in services, by 2.1% in construction and by 1.3% in industry. By branches the highest year-over-year rises in the gross labour cost occurred in wholesale trade and maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (8.3%), and education (6.3%). In contrast, it fell the most in metallurgy (−2.7%) and retail trade (−0.9%).

The wage cost rose by 2.2% in 2019 in comparison with the previous year. By sectors, it increased by 2.7% in services and by 2.4% in construction and by 0.8% in industry.

By components, 73.87% of the gross annual labour cost per worker corresponded to the wage cost (25,126.94 euros), 23.42% corresponded to compulsory Social Security contributions (7,967.10 euros) and 2.71% corresponded to other cost components (920.58 euros).

By unit size, the gross labour cost per worker increased by 1.7% in the units with 1 to 49 workers, by 4.3% in those with 50 to 199 workers and by 2.4% in those with 200 or more workers.
