Statistics on Campsite Activity. Q2/2020
The number of overnight stays spent at campsites in Catalonia decreased by a year-over-year 90.5% in the second quarter of 2020, according to the provisional data from the Campsite Occupancy Survey.
On the other hand, the number of registered travellers at campsites decreased by a year-over-year 85.8%.
In accordance with the Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19 was in force between 14 March and 21 June 2020. The first section of Order SND/257/2020 of 19 March declaring the suspension of the opening of tourist accommodation establishments to the public, in accordance with article 10.6 of Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, whereby a state of alarm is declared for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, establishes the suspension of the opening of hotels and short-stay tourist accommodation to the public. From 19 March onwards the above establishments gradually closed and on 26 March they suspended their activity for tourist purposes. In accordance with Order SND/399/2020, of 9th May, tourist accommodation gradually opened to the public from 11 May onwards, subject to certain restrictions, as the territories in which they were located reached at least phase 1 of the plan for the resumption of normal activity. Although Royal Decree 555/2020, of 5 June, allowed the population to travel throughout the territory from 21 June onwards, the number of tourist establishments open during this month has been low. For all these reasons, the quarterly data of the Campsite Occupancy Survey by tourist brands cannot be provided, as they do not fulfil the quality criteria for publication.
