Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 08/2020. Provisional data
The number of Social Security affiliations in Catalonia up to 31 August 2020 decreased by 0.5% compared to the figure for July, and currently stands at 3,329,646, according to provisional data.
By economic sector, in comparison with July, affiliations decreased in construction (−1.3%; 2,654 affiliations), in services (−0.5%; 13,814 affiliations) and in industry (−0.3%; 1,617 affiliations), while they increased in agriculture (1.3%, 774 affiliations).
By economic division, the largest decreases in absolute figures were recorded in education (−4.8%; 6,673 affiliations), food and beverage services (−1.6%; 3,404 affiliations) and retail trade (−0.9%; 3,016 affiliations). The largest increases compared to July, also in absolute figures, were in services to buildings and landscape activities (2.8%; 2,932 affiliations), employment activities (4.1%; 1,914 affiliations) and crop and animal production, hunting and related service activities (1.6%; 894 affiliations).
By type of employment relationship, the number of social security contributors in paid employment fell by 0.6% while those of the self-employed remained stable compared to July. In terms of affiliations in paid employment, decreased those on temporary contracts (−2.1%) as well as those on permanent contracts (−0.1%). With regard to the workday, the number of social security contributors on full-time contracts and those on part-time contracts dropped by 0.2% and 2.2%, respectively, while those on permanent discontinuous contracts remained stable.
The number of contributors to Social Security in Catalonia decreased by 0.4% in August 2020 in comparison with July and currently stands at 3,196,845.
By counties, the largest decreases in percentage terms of Social Security contributors are in El Baix Empordà (−2.2%), El Segrià (−2.1%) and in L'Alt Empordà (−1.8%). In contrast, L'Aran (2.2%), El Pla d’Urgell (1.4%) and L’Alt Penedès (1.3%) are the counties with the largest increases.
By sex, the number of male as well as female contributors decreased by 0.4%. By nationality, the number of contributors with Spanish citizenship decreased by 0.5% and the number of foreign contributors by 0.1%.
As a consequence of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, Idescat publishes the provisional monthly results of Social Security contributors and affiliations based on contributors’ registered place of residence as of the last day of each month. The statistics on Contributors and Affiliations is referenced to the last day of March, June, September and December, but for the duration of this exceptional situation, data will also be published on the last day of each month for which they are available. The definitive results will be published in accordance with Idescat's publication calendar.
