Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 10/2024
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 71,020 people in October 2024, a figure that represents an increase of 2.0% compared to the same month in the previous year, standing at 3,596,125 people according to definitive data. The number of contributors increased in all counties except El Lluçanès, which registered the highest fall (−1.9%), La Terra Alta, La Ribera d'Ebre and El Priorat. The largest increase was in L'Alta Ribagorça at 3.4%.
In relation to September, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 10,910 people (−0.3%), and it did so in 27 counties and Aran. The highest decreases were in Aran (−5.3%) and El Baix Llobregat and La Selva (−3.5% each).
By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole the number of women affiliated to Social Security increased by 36,020 and the number of men by 34,995. This represents year-over-year increases of 2.2% and 1.9%, respectively.
In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased their number of contributors compared with a year ago, excepte for the 30 to 44 age group which decreased by 0.3%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most (4.4%) and did so in all counties, excepte in La Terra Alta (−1.3%). The main rises were in L'Alta Ribagorça (7.4%), and El Baix Llobregat and El Baix Penedès (5.6% each).
Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 5.8% compared to the same month in the previous year and did so in all counties except for El Priorat (−4.2%). Spanish national contributors rose by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 36 counties and Aran.
Affiliations in the services sector increased by 2.3% year-over-year, the highest increase of all sectors, and did so throughout the territory except in El Lluçanès and La Ribera d'Ebre. Affiliations in industry rose by 0.9% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 26 counties. The increase in construction was 1.6% and it grew in 24 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 685 fewer affiliations than a year ago.
By type of working day, 19.3% of employee affiliations in October were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.2%, more than double the figure for men (12.5%).
Regarding to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.3%, 1.3 percentage points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment was La Ribera d’Ebre (14.8%) while El Baix Empordà showed the lowest level (7.8%).
