Methodological note

The Survey on the use of information and communication technologies and e-commerce in companies (ETICCE) is an annual sample-based survey conducted by the INEfor the entire Spanish territory. Idescat expands upon the results offered by this operation for Catalonia.

The main objective of the survey is to ascertain the use of TICs by companies companies with activities within Spanish territory and their e-commerce activities..

The target population of study consists of the companies carrying out the activities described in sections C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, divisions 69 to74 of section M,section N and group 95.1 according to the NACE Rev.2.

The population framework of the survey is the Central Companies Directory (DIRCE),an organized register with data on identification, localization, territorial distribution and classificationby size and economic activity of the units.

The statistical unit of analysis is companies carrying out an economic activity that is included in the population framework described above. The company is also the informant unit.

For the published data to be comparable with those provided by the INE and other official statistics organizations, the results are obtained by differentiating between companies with 10 or more employees and companies with less than 10 employees. In earlier editions to the survey of 2010, the information is presented for companieswith 10 or more wage earners and for companies with less than 10 wage earners.

Between the years 2000 and 2003, Idescat and the FOBSIC (Catalonia Information Society Observatory Foundation, DURSI) performed the Survey on ICT equipment and use in Catalan companies annually.
