The population of Catalonia on 1 January 2023 amounted to 7,899,056 inhabitants, according to provisional data from the Population Estimates performed by Idescat. This figure represents an annual increase of 128,367 inhabitants (1.6%) compared to 2022.

By provinces, Girona and Tarragona are where the population increased most in relative terms, with a growth of 2.1%. All provinces have positive growth.

Advanced estimates are disseminated as of 1 July 2022 and 1 January 2023, and post-census estimates are updated for Catalonia and the provinces as of 1 July 2021 and 1 January 2022.

The advanced results of Population Estimates are available for Catalonia and its provinces. The results are provisional and will remain valid until next January, when Idescat replaces them with the definitive Population Estimates, which are calculated once the Population Census numbers for the years 2022 and 2023 are available.
