Population Estimates. Intercensal Estimates. 2012–2021

The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) releases the Intercensal Population Estimates 2012-2021. The Postcensal Population Estimates available until now were calculated based on the 2011 Population Census and the natural and migratory movement of each year. Based on the results of the Population Census 2021, the series of Population Estimates for the period 2012-2021 has been revised and corrected and has become definitive.

Intercensal Population Estimates 2012-2021 are offered for Catalonia, provinces, territorial plan areas, counties and Aran and municipalities with 50,000 inhabitants or more, which is the same territorial detail available for the Postcensal Population Estimates 2012-2021.

The Intercensal Population Estimates 2012-2021 incorporate an extension of the information by age: year-by-year population estimates are offered up to 105 years of age or over for Catalonia and up to 100 years of age or over for the rest of the territories.

From the availability of the data from the Population Census 2021 and the Intercensal Population Estimates 2012-2021, the reference sources of the centenary population for the years 2012 onwards change and become the Population Estimates; as for the reference source for the period from 1981 to 2011, it continues to be the Centenarian Population Estimate.

Together with the Intercensal Population Estimates 2012-2021, the demographic indicators of structure and growth for this period are updated.
