Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 06/2023. Provisional data

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 2.8% in the month of June with respect to the previous year and stands at 3,546,465 people, according to provisional data. El Segrià (4.3%) leaded the counties with the highest year-over-year increase, followed by El Baix Penedès (3.6%), El Barcelonès (3.0%) and El Tarragonès (2.8%). At the other extreme, the number of contributors fell in L’Alta Ribagorça (−0.8%), Osona (−1.4%, affected by the creation of the new county of El Lluçanès), El Priorat (−1.4%) and La Ribera d’Ebre (−1.6%).

Compared with May, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole (0.4%) and also in 30 counties and in Aran.

By sex, in Catalonia as a whole and compared to a year ago, the number of women affiliated to Social Security increased by 3.1%, higher than the increase of 2.4% in the number of men.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased the number of contributors compared with a year ago, except for the 30-44 age group, which has decreased slightly (−0.2%). Affiliates under 30 years increased by 5.7%, with a similar increase to those aged 55 and over (5.5%). The youngest group has increased throughout the territory (except in El Priorat) and the highest variation has occured in El Segrià (10.5%).

By nationality, the year-over-year increase in the number of foreign contributors (10.6%) is higher than that of Spanish contributors (1.2%) in Catalonia as a whole. Foreign contributors increased in all counties and in Aran, while Spanish contributors decreased in 8 counties.

Agriculture is the sector in which affiliations increased most in relative terms, by 6.2%, compared with the previous year. The highest variation in absolute numbers was in El Segrià (with 1,080 more affiliations than in June 2022). Construction increased affiliations in relation to the previous year, by 3.0% in Catalonia as a whole (representing 6,540 more affiliations). The number of new affiliations in construction has increased in 29 counties and in Aran. The services sector has grown by 84,705 new affiliations compared with the previous year, a figure that represents a year-over-year increase of 3.0% and increases throughout the territory, except in Osona (−1.6%, affected by the creation of the new county of El Lluçanès), La Ribera d’Ebre (−1.0%), L’Alta Ribagorça (−0.7%) and El Priorat (−0.6%). Affiliations in industry increased in Catalonia as a whole, by 1.3%, and in 33 counties and in Aran.

The degree of part-time work of employee affiliations in June 2023 was 19.5%. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.9%, more than double that of men (12.4%).

The degree of temporary contracts of Social Security employee affiliations stands at 12.8%, 5.4 points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is L’Alta Ribagorça (19.2%) and those with the lowest are El Baix Empordà (9.5%) and L'Alt Empordà (9.6%).
