Names of Newborn Children. 2022

Leo (433) was, for the first time, the most frequently given name in Catalonia in 2022, and Júlia/Julia (440) has remained since 2017 as the most frequent name among girls.

As for boys, Marc (398) moved into third position, behind Leo and Nil (425), after having topped the ranking of the most frequent baby name since the onomastics statistics began in 1977. As for girls, after Júlia/Julia, Ona was the most frequent name (414), followed by Martina (396), Mia (372) and Lucía (357).

By areas of the Territorial Plan, Leo was the most frequently used name in the Metropolitan Area, El Camp de Tarragona and El Penedès. Jan was the most frequent name in the Girona Counties area, Ponent, Central Counties and L’Alt Pirineu i Aran, while Marc was only the most frequent name in Les Terres de l'Ebre.

Júlia/Julia was the most frequent name for girls born in the Metropolitan Area, Girona Counties, El Camp de Tarragona and El Penedès. Martina was the most frequent name in Les Terres de l'Ebre, Ona in Ponent, Jana in the Central Counties area and Laia in L’Alt Pirineu i Aran.
