Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 07/2023. Provisional data

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 1.6% in July with respect to the previous year and stood at 3,540,230 people, according to provisional data. El Solsonès (11.5%) leads the counties with the highest year-over-year increase, followed by El Baix Penedès (2.9%) and El Segrià (2.2%). At the other end of the scale, the number of members fell in Osona (−2.7%), La Ribera d’Ebre (−2.8%) and La Segarra (−5.0%).

The results of El Solsonès and La Segarra counties are affected by the change of county assignment of Torà and Biosca, just as those of Osona and El Bages are affected by the creation and modification of El Lluçanès county.

In relation to June, the number of contributors fell by 0.2% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 15 counties. Even so, affiliation rose in 27 counties and Aran compared to the previous month.

By sex, compared to a year ago, in Catalonia the number of women contributors to Social Security increased by 1.6%, slightly above the increase in the number of men, which was 1.5%.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago, except for those aged 30 to 44, which has decreased by 1.3%. Those aged 55 and over increased by 4.9% and those aged 45 to 54 by 2.2%. Those aged under 30 increased by 2.6% in 33 counties and Aran, especially in El Solsonès (8.2%) and El Segrià (6.3%).

According to nationality, the year-over-year increase in the number of foreign contributors (8.8%) is more intense than that of contributors of Spanish nationality, which have remained practically stable (0.1%) in Catalonia as a whole.

Agriculture is the sector with the highest relative increase in affiliations in relation to the previous year, 3.9%, which represents 2,305 more affiliations than a year ago. The highest variation in absolute numbers was in El Segrià (with 595 more affiliations than in July 2022). Construction increased the number of affiliations in relation to the previous year, by 2.1% in Catalonia as a whole (which represents 4,665 more affiliations). The number of affiliations in construction has increased in 29 counties and Aran. The service sector has grown by 43,050 affiliations compared to the previous year, a figure that represents a year-over-year increase of 1.5% and throughout the territory, except in 9 counties. Affiliations in industry increased in Catalonia as a whole, by 0.8% (3,985 more affiliations), and in 27 counties.

The degree of part-time contracts of employed affiliates in July 2023 was 19.4%. As for women, the proportion was 26.9%, more than double that of men (12.2%).

The degree of temporary contracts of Social Security affiliations for employed persons stood at 12.8%, 4.9 points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment is L'Alta Ribagorça (20.7%) and those with the lowest are El Baix Empordà (9.8%) and L’Alt Empordà (10.4%).
