Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 08/2023. Definitive data

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 75,935 people in the month of August as compared to the previous year, a figure that represents an increase of 2.2%, and stands at 3,492,275 people, according to definitive data. Among the highest variations are the increase in El Solsonès (12.2%) and the decreases in La Segarra (−5.2%) and Osona (−2.4%), affected by the creation of El Lluçanès or by the change of county affiliation of Torà and Biosca. The other highest variations are the 3.3% increase recorded in El Baix Penedès and the 3.2% decrease in La Ribera d'Ebre.

Compared with July, the number of contributors fell by 1.4% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 39 counties and Arán.

By sex and with respect to a year ago, the number of women affiliated to Social Security in Catalonia in whole increased by 2.6%, above the increase in the number of men, 1.9%.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased their number of contributors compared to a year ago, except for those aged 30 to 44. Those aged 55 and over increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (5.2%), followed by those under 30 (4.1%) and those aged 45 to 54 (2.6%); in contrast, those aged 30 to 44 decreased by 0.5%.

Affiliations in the services sector, which represent 78.6% of the total, have increased by 2.5% year-over-year and have grown throughout the territory, except in 5 counties. In industry, the affiliations have increased in Catalonia as a whole, by 1.1%, and have also increased in 32 counties. The affiliations in construction increased by 2.2% year-over-year, and this was also the case in 31 counties and Aran. The affiliations in agriculture increased by 0.4%, the lowest variation of all sectors, which represents 225 more affiliations than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.1% of those employed in August 2023 were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.6%, more than double that of men (11.9%).

As far as temporary contracts are concerned, the proportion of affiliations with a temporary nature registered with the Social Security system stands at 12.2%, 3.8 points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is L’Alta Ribagorça (19.6%), double the level of temporary employment in El Baix Empordà (8.9%) and L’Alt Empordà (9.7%), which have the lowest levels.
