Labour Cost Statistics. Q2/2023

The labour cost per worker and month stood at 3,313.74 euros in Catalonia in the second quarter of 2023, 6.2% more than in the same quarter of 2022. For specific sectors, the labour cost per worker and month in the ICT sector was 5,113.21 euros, 2.0% more than a year ago, while the culture sector stood at 3,639.40 euros, with a year-over-year increase of 2.6%. The tourism sector increased by 7.7% compared to the same quarter of 2022, with a labour cost of 2,389.39 euros per worker and month. Within the tourism sector, the highest labour cost was recorded by the tourism transport subsector (3,835.16 euros). Within the culture sector, the audiovisual and advertising subsector recorded the highest labour cost (4,099.90 euros).

The wage cost per worker and month increased by 5.8% in Catalonia and reached 2,490.45 euros. The wage cost in the ICT sector was 3,973.42 euros (−0.4% year-over-year increase), in the culture sector was 2,777.09 euros (0.7%) and in tourism sector was 1,760.72 euros (8.1%).

By effective hour, the labour cost was 25.34 euros, and the wage cost 19.05 euros. In the analysed specific sectors, ICT sector had the highest effective wage cost per hour (26.48 euros), followed by the cultural (20.68 euros) and tourism (14.51 euros) sectors.

Finally, the number of job vacancies was 30,800, 5.4% more than a year ago, and the service sector accounts for 87.9% of these job vacancies.
