Statistics on Hotel Activity. 08/2023

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 12.1% year-over-year in September 2023, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays increased by 0.8%: of these, Catalan travellers increased by 4.2% and travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 3.6% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 16.3% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from the United Kingdom, France and Germany presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (903.8, 702.7 and 429.9 thousand, respectively), and registered positive year-over-year variations of 14.7%, 5.2% and 19.8%, respectively.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.0, 1.5 and 1.4 million, respectively) and registered posivive year-over-year variations of 6,4%, 15,8% i 12,3%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 9.3% year-over-year, with a growth in domestic tourism by 4.8% and by 11.9% in foreign tourism.
