Start of fieldwork on the Survey on the Use of Time 2023-2024

Idescat is launching the third edition of the Survey on the Use of Time, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Equality and Feminisms and the Barcelona City Council. The aim of the survey is to measure the time that the population spends on daily activities in 10-minute intervals over 24 hours. The results provide information on the paid and unpaid work, the distribution of family responsibilities, the participation of the population in voluntary, cultural or leisure activities, and the amount of time spent on activities using the internet, among others.

The fieldwork begins on 20 November 2023, and the sample is distributed evenly over the course of a year so that every day of the week is represented (from Monday to Sunday), according to the recommendations of Eurostat on the harmonised European time use surveys.

The Survey on the Use of Time 2023-2024 is an official statistical activity integrated in the Annual Statistical Action Programme for the year 2023 (action 04 06 01), which implements the Law on the Statistical Plan of Catalonia 2017–2020, currently extended as established in the article 41.2 of the Law 23/1998, of 30 December, on statistics in Catalonia.
