Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q3/2023

Catalan exports of industrial products with a high technological content increased by 13.5% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2023 and are the group of products by technological content with the highest increase.

Catalonia exported industrial products worth 21,674.7 million euros in the third quarter of 2023, a figure that represents an increase of 0.8% compared with the same quarter of the previous year. The grouping of industrial products according to effort in research and development (R&D) shows that high and medium-high technology exports have registered an increase compared to the previous year (13.5% and 8.5%, respectively), while the remaining levels (medium-low and low) have decreased their sales (-20.9% and -5.4%, respectively), in the same period.

All products with a high technological content have increased their exports. Pharmaceutical products, which represent 73.5% of the total of this product group, have increased by 13.9% compared to the same quarter of 2022.

Catalonia imported industrial products worth 22,914.9 million euros in the third quarter of 2023, a figure that represents a year-on-year decrease of 10.0%. Foreign purchases of all technological levels show decreases: 13.2% in the high technological content, 6.1% in the medium-high, 17.0% in the medium-low and 10.4% in the low level.
