Labour market statistics on people with disabilities. 2022

The employment rate of people with a legally recognized disability was 29.0% in 2022, with an increase of 1 point compared to the previous year, and 44.1 points lower than that of people without disabilities (73.1%). The number of employed persons with disabilities was 93,800, which represents an increase of 2.6% in 2022, while the number of persons without disabilities increased by 2.1%.

The unemployment rate for people with disabilities was 17.6% (3.0 points lower than in 2021 and 8.1 points higher than the rate for people without disabilities). The number of unemployed persons with disabilities was 20,000 people and decreased by 15.3% in 2022, while the reduction in the number of unemployed people without disabilities was 16.5%.

The activity rate of people with a legally recognized disability was 35.1% in 2022 in Catalonia, 0.2 points lower than in 2021 and 45.7 points lower than that of the non-disabled population (80.8%). The number of active people with disabilities was 113,800 people and decreased by 1.0% compared to a year ago, and the number of active people without disabilities remained stable (−0.02%).

By sex the presence of men in the active population with disabilities (54.9% of the active population) was higher than in the active population without disabilities (51.9%). Regarding the activity rate, the rate of women with disabilities was 2.5 points lower than that of men, while among the non-disabled population the difference between sexes was 7.5 points.

By age, the activity rate of people with disabilities decreased with age, from 44.2% in the 16-44 age group to 31.5% in the 45-64 age group.

On the other hand, the level of education attained was lower among the active population with disabilities: 72.3% of the active population with disabilities had at most secondary education, compared to 53.0% of the active population without disabilities.

In relation to the characteristics of the employment, 91.9% of the employed population aged 16 to 64 with disabilities were employees and, of these, 76.1% had an indefinite contract. On the other hand, 81.9% of the employed population with disabilities worked full time and 77.7% worked in the service sector.
