Statistics on Foreign Tourism. 12/2023 and year 2023. Provisional data

The number of foreign tourists arriving in Catalonia stood at 1.0 million in December 2023, which represents a year-over-year increase of 25.4%. By country of habitual residence, the countries from which the majority of tourists came were France, Italy and the United States, with year-over-year increases (14.5%, 32.5% and 34.9%, respectively).

By reason for travelling, leisure trips and trips for other reasons (health, studies, family, etc.) increased by 23.5% and 64.3%, respectively, while business trips decreased by 7.1%. As for the principal type of accommodation, hotels and similar increased by 15.3% and homes of relatives or friends by 30.7%.

In 2023, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Catalonia increased by 21.2% compared with 2022, and stood at 18.0 million, according to provisional data. By country of habitual residence, the countries from which the majority of tourists came, France, United Kingdom and the United States, registered increases (8.5%, 25.3% and 37.8%, respectively).
