Industrial Production Index. 12/2023 and 2023. Provisional data

The Industrial Production Index adjusted by working days increased by 0.1% year-over-year in Catalonia in December 2023. By large industrial sectors, energy grew by 3.8%, capital goods remained stable (year-over-year variation of 0.0%) and, on the other hand, consumer goods decreased by 1.0% and intermediate goods by 0.6%.

In December 2023, the Industrial Products Index (which does not include energy) decreased by 7.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The Industrial Production Index (which includes energy) decreased by 6.1% year-over-year. By large industrial sectors there were decreases in consumer goods (−8.8%), capital goods (−7.4%) and intermediate goods (−5.7%), while energy (2.8%) increased.

Moreover, by industrial divisions the most significant decreases were registered in manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (−23.0%), in manufacture of transport material (−22.1%) and in textile, clothing, leather and footwear industries (−14.9%). By contrast, production increased in electrical, electronic and optical materials and equipment (18.6%) and in other manufacturing industries (0.5%).

In 2023, the annual average of the industrial production index decreased by 0.5%, according to provisional data. By large industrial sectors, there were decreases in intermediate goods (−3.5%), energy (−2.9%) and consumer goods (−0.9%), while capital goods (6.0%) increased. By sections of the CCAE-2009, there were notable decreases in paper, graphic arts and recorded media industries (−13.1%) and in textile, clothing, leather and footwear industries (−10.0%). By contrast, production increased in manufacture of transport material (15.5%).
