Statistics on Hotel Activity. 01/2024

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 1.9% year-over-year in January 2024, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 6.7%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 9.3% and travellers from the rest of Spain increased by 4.2% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 6.9% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, Italy and United States presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (181.9, 131.4 and 126.6 thousand, respectively), and registered positive year-over-year variations by 2.5%, 4.0% and 16.2%, respectively.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (1.4 million, 282.8 thousand and 163.7 thousand, respectively) and Barcelona and Costa Barcelona registered positive year-over-year variations of 3.6% and 1.6%, respectively, while Costa Brava decreased a 9.0%.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments grew by 3.4% year-over-year, with an increase in domestic tourism by 12.0% and a decrease in foreign tourism by 7.3%.
